Autumn is such a wonderful time of year, as mother nature delights our senses. Trees' leaves begin to radiate their amazing colors before they shed them in wintertime. Animals scurry about, busily preparing themselves for the cold. And every store you walk into smells like cinnamon :)
We love appreciate the season and go out of the city to take in the air and sometimes (hopefully!), the quiet. Here are our favorite activities to do with the whole family. Happy Autumn!
1.) Learn the history of this season's holidays in Guilford, CT
Calling all history lovers! Henry Whitfield State Museum puts on an interactive exhibit called "Holidaze: The Real Story of Halloween, Thanksgiving & Christmas". Explore the origins and myths of our most popular holidays. Hands-on activities include trying on Halloween costumes, a trivia challenge, and writing letters to Santa. Visitors are encouraged to bring donations for UNICEF, the Guilford Food Bank, and Toys for Tots. Admission to the exhibit also includes self-guided tours of the 1639 Henry Whitfield House.
Address: 248 Old Whitfield St. Guilford, CT 06437
2.) Take a trip to Riamede Farm in Chester, NJ
3.) Enjoy the Halloween Parade and block party in Tarrytown, NY
A yearly tradition, this parade is appropriate for whole family and is the perfect mix of scary and silly. Come early for parking and activities, and stay late for the block party. Better yet, take Metro North and don't worry about the hassle! Be sure to dress up!
4.) Visit Ochs Orchard in Warwick, NY
5.) Hike the Breakneck Ridge Trail
This one is for families who are bit more experienced with hiking. The great news is, no car required! Pack a picnic, and take in the amazing views. It gets crowded on the weekends, but the views are completely worth it. More info and helpful tips are located at Trip Advisor.
